Need storage in your closet? Closet drawers are the perfect choice. A closet drawer will keep your items secure, organized, and won't take up too much room if you already own a closet!

This hub will talk about some closet drawers, why they are useful, where you can find them, some cool organization tactics, etc. You are bound to have a good time reading, so get ready for some closet drawer fun!

What Are Closet Drawers?

These guys are drawers that you can install directly into a closet, so you may give up some space at the top of the closet for hanging shirts, but you get a lot more space at the bottom to store folded items in. You can often stack 3-4 drawers one on top of the other, and you can give yourself plenty of room for socks, shirts, underwear, etc.

So what's the point? It will make your closet look very organized, nice, and good. I recommend it if you are finding that you just don't have enough space in your room to store your clothes. They were great for me---unfolded laundry just thrown about my room b/c I didn't have a place to put them! Closet drawers allow someone like me to have a place for clothing.

So where can I get them?

You can find these guys at any home furniture store, or even department store. For example, Target, Lowe's, Wal*Mart, etc. will all sell closet drawers.

Here are the steps to buying a closet drawer:

  1. First, decide if your closet is big enough for closet drawers. You have to realize that each drawer limits the amount of available space for hanging vertical clothes, like sports coats, jackets, etc.
  2. Measure the inside of your closet and write down how wide and think the inside panel is. You may need these measurements when you decide to purchase your drawers.
  3. Figure out which color is best. Usually, this will be the color or your closet.
  4. Go online and check out some drawers you like.
  5. Call around and see which stores have that variety in stock. For example, call up Wal*Mart and Target and see what they have.
  6. Go in person to a few stores and see if you like them.
  7. Buy them, bring them home, and install your new closet drawers!

So are there any downsides?

As I wrote earlier, each successive drawer reduces the amount of space you have to hang items. If you have lots of shirts hanging without enough room, they may get wrinkled over time. This may or may not be a concern to you depending on how often you iron, wear nice clothing, etc. Just make sure you have enough space for you concern.

Additionally, you can consider getting drawers that aren't as wide as your closet, so you can hang a few choice pieces of clothing off to the side. This is a good happy medium if you are concerned about space for hanging clothes.
