A popular choice for building a new bathroom or for remodeling an older bathroom, fiberglass shower stalls are a versatile, durable, and attractive choice for showers.

Fiberglass has features that cannot be found in acrylic or plastic shower stalls.

The most common shower stall enclosure on the market, fiberglass shower stalls are ideal for any home because they are inexpensive, low maintenance, readily available at most stores that handle shower units and they are remarkably easy to install. An easy to clean surface that holds up well under the hot and wet conditions of a shower and looks great too is a good reason to look into fiberglass when choosing a material for shower units.

Fiberglass shower stalls come in a variety of sizes, color, and shapes and are considerably less expensive to build and easier to maintain than a tile shower. Fiberglass stalls are also energy saving devices as they prevent a loss of water. Though they can be slightly more costly than the plastic ones, fiberglass shower stalls are more functional, less likely to leak, are built a bit heavier, are more durable and will likely last longer than the lighter weight plastic or acrylic types, so they are very cost efficient.

Fiberglass shower stalls have the added benefit that they are not cold to the touch like ceramic tile showers can be, because there are fewer things more unpleasant while showering than pressing a wet, unclothed body against a frigid wall.  These showers offer a smooth surface that is also resistant to scratching and scuffing. Fiberglass walls are not awkward and bulky. They are long lasting, even with frequent and heavy use. They are also generally leak-free, which will prevent water from splashing the bathroom, so they are ideal for children’s baths. However, if cracking or chipping does occur, fiberglass shower stalls can be repaired and sanded, and gel coating is available for purchase to make the repair virtually impossible to detect.

Made of plastic embedded with tiny shreds of glass, fiberglass is a very durable material. Most fiberglass shower stalls are gel coated to provide an attractive finish. While the majority of the stalls are a one-piece unit to make installation extremely simple and prevent leakage, the fiberglass walls are also available in two or three pieces
