Finding The Right Foam Sheet: Convoluted Foam and Styrofoam Sheets

Foam sheet is a marvelous and exceptionally useful polymer. Found in various shapes, sizes, designs and varieties, different kind of foam sheets have a wide range of applications. They are used in packaging industry, art and craft industry and other general uses like manufacturing mattresses and cushions.

Different varieties of sheet foams possess different properties, making them largely useful in different industries. Some of the well known uses of different kinds of foam are; packaging, insulation, sound absorption and shape retention.

Essentially, all kind of foam sheets are very good insulators and this unique property makes them highly useful in many industries. As compared to fiberglass, foam sheet uses much less place and yet provides better insulation. It is especially useful for packing electronics like computers and other high tech devices because other packaging material is not essentially anti-static. Other than this, this variety of foam is also known as ‘memory foam’. It is very useful while making cushions for recliners and other similar sofas. The foam has the unique property of retaining the shape of its user. In other words, after the initial period, the cushion takes your exact sleeping posture! This makes it exceptionally comfortable and relaxing. Memory foam is also used in hospitals in the form of mattresses and cushion because of its unique property that helps prevent ulcers and bed sores.

Another interesting use of memory foam is in noise reduction environments. On finer observation of the foam’s surface, you can find small conical structures, similar to that of a cardboard egg tray. This structure is especially helpful in fitting closely and absorbing all sound waves that are directed towards it. Thus, fixing a layer of the foam on walls can help extensively in case you require a noise reduction factor.

As mentioned above, this variety of foam also possesses great insulation properties. Even though most varieties of foam are great insulators, each variety has its own limitations and drawbacks. In other words, the insulation property may fail under certain situations. As compared to majority of foam sheets, Styrofoam sheets have the least limitations, and thus they offer the best insulation possible. Needless to say, the packaging industry is the sector where this variety of foam gets used on a large scale.

Every day, new variations of Styrofoam sheets are being experimented upon. Different variants have different properties, some seemingly beneficial towards certain uses. Another industry that uses Styrofoam sheets vastly is the art and craft sector. A large number of craft projects are based on these foam sheets.

Since Styrofoam sheets have a variety of useful properties, and come of use for craft purposes, you can always reuse them and create some funky stuff that you can hang around the house! On the other hand, if you have got excess of it, you can always store it in the form of small chunks in a box. Packing material never goes waste after all!
