Acne is a skin infection that is usually seen in an adolescent. However, acne is not completely restricted for a teenager; rather it is also seen in people who are in their thirties and forties. Acne is manifested as whiteheads/blackheads or pimples and are usually seen on back, neck, face, chest and shoulders. While simple acne is called as whitehead or blackhead, the severe outbreaks are called as pimples. Infected pimples form a lump beneath the skin known as cysts or nodules.

Causes of Acne-

Acne is usually caused by a hormonal imbalance which leads to blockage of the skin pores by dirt, oil and bacteria. The male sex hormone that is usually in surge during adolescence is the main causative factor of acne. The other causes include improper diet that is rich in fat, sugar and starch. People who have chronic constipation also suffer from this skin infection as the fecal matter is not eliminated from the body in a regular fashion. In such cases, toxic materials start accumulating in the blood. The skin takes the extra responsibility of excreting the toxic waste products that is circulating in the blood causing acne.
