Self-healing railings.

How would you like to install a railing outside or inside that never needs to be painted or repaired and always looks great?

Stainless steel railing eliminates the need for any external coatings; it is corrosion resistant and self-healing. It costs more, but over the lifetime of the railing it will pay for itself many times. This stainless steel railing is a low carbon steel with corrosion-resisting chromium added. The chromium forms a film on the outside, creating a surface that is tough and invisible.

You have many choices in the railing materials.  You can have an iron railing, aluminum railing and a wooden railing. These spaces between the rails and the posts can be filled with glass panels, metal panels, balusters or cable. If you choose the glass you can get a three-eight inch or half-inch tempered glass that is clear, tinted or obscure.  The stair spindles or balusters can be almost any design you want.

How to drive yourself crazy picking your new railing.

You have a railing to install. It could be on a deck, on a stairway, on the patio or around the swimming pool. You are not sure what look you want. You are not sure which railing you should pick. You are not even sure if you want colored, glass, cable, or balusters.

Being a reasonable person you ask other people for advice. You ask your children. You do not know what you were thinking, if you ask them what they want to do, one wants to go to the movies, the other wants to go shopping.  Of course you got two different answers. You ask your uncle who knows everything about everything. He thinks you should have a stainless steel railing custom made that looks like it belongs to a Southern mansion.  You asked the neighbor down the street with a really nice house. You should have looked at the house first and thought about it. She thinks you should go with wood. You live in a coastal community with all the dampness, wind, and salt air.

So you are right back where you started. You still do not know what style you want. You do know whatever style you pick there are people that are going to be mad because you did not take their wonderful advice.

The investment.

The railing you are installing will last for 10, 20 or 30 years. The initial investment is just part of the cost of the railing. You have to maintain the railing over the next one, two or three decades. Before you set a budget you should consider all the parts of this decision.

The first consideration is the cost to order the railing. The second consideration is the installation.  Will you do this yourself or will you hire a contractor?  The third consideration is the care and maintenance required.  To determine what best investment for you is, you need answer this question:  “What is more important to you, your time or your money?”

Whichever railing you decide on, you will enjoy. It is a great investment in your future and in the enjoyment
