Where Can I Find Exotic Animals For Sale?

There are a few locations where you can look for and buy exotic animals.

Remember that exotic pets can't be shipped by mail! So, you'll need to find a dealer nearby or arrange for a way to transport your animal.

The best way to find a dealer is to search online

You will want to have a species in mind when you start your search! Rare animals aren't easy to find so you need to search for your particular animal! Go to Google and search for "[your animal] breeder' and "[your animal] dealer" to find potential places to buy.

A quick search for dealers in Texas showed me that you many dealerships already have Monkeys, Pouched Rats, Sugar Gliders, Hedgehogs, Bunnies, Jirds, Chinchillas, Degus, Dormice, Ferrets, Guinea Pigs, Pygmy Mice, Fancy Rats, Black Hamsters, Potbelly Pigs, and Reptiles. There are so many options!

The Procedure For Obtaining Your Exotic Animal

Follow these steps to get your animal!

  1. Choose Your Pet - Make sure you know what pet you want to own. Research and choose the pet you really want! Remember you will have to take care of your pet, owning an exotic animal is a big responsibility. This page might help you brainstorm your animal choice.
  2. Know the law - Make sure that your pet is legal in your area. Check out the other part of this article, Which Exotic Pets For Sale Are Legal In My State? to learn how.
  3. Locate a doctor and a source of food for your animal - Does the animal need special care? Or a special source of food? Know this before buying.
  4. Find a dealer/breeder and buy the pet - Once you are sure you are prepared to own the pet, buy it! Find a dealer by using the tips in the previous section.
  5. Organize transportation - Be sure you know the law and you have a method to bring the animal home. The dealer/breeder might be able to help you with this.

That's it! You are now the proud owner of a new exotic animal! Great work.

I would say they are hard to come by. My niece asked for a turtle and it took us a while to find a supplier and be prepared as well as these animals don't come cheap either.

Reptiles and fish can be shipped by mail, so that's not really correct. Exotic animals of all kinds can also be shipped through Delta Dash or something like that. I got my genet that way.
