73Remodeling or installing a new staircase in a home can be a little overwhelming when you start looking at all the different choices that are available. Wrought Iron
Today wrought iron comes in so many designs and colors that you have a wide array of choices. Then of course you can mix and match materials till you come up with just the right complimentary design for your home. One of the latest trends that many people are opting for is a mix of wrought iron staircases with wood railings. It is frequently used in modern or contemporary styled homes creating an enchanting appearance that many other staircase designs do not offer.
Decorating with wrought iron today is so easy because there are so many colors to choose from including silver, patina, satin black with gold accents, bronze, copper, gold or brown glaze. With such a huge number of colors to choose from it is easy to tie in to other colors in the home as the perfect accent.
Wood Staircase or Railing
There is hardly anything as impressive as seeing an oak wood staircase winding its way up to the second floor. Real wood staircases are very impressive and at the same time once they are installed they are fairly easy to keep clean as opposed to carpeting. Oak is one of the preferred types of wood for staircases because of its rich beauty and durability. It adds a sense of charm and elegance to any home and it blends so wonderfully with other pieces of oak furniture throughout the home.
You may have noticed several wood staircases in other homes, office buildings or libraries that are designed with oak staircases in combination with an iron railing. The railing enhances the appearance of the wood staircase and provides a sturdy hand-hold for ascending the stairs. Wood staircases with wood railings are also equally as impressive and sometimes the use of two different types of wood, one for the railing and another for the staircase make an interesting combination.
You have your choice of wood railings and or staircases in all types of wood from light to dark. Some options include poplar, maple, cherry, mahogany and of course oak. The use of exotic woods can bring in some new and varied looks too. Using wood also allows the option for applying different stains to bring out more of the grains making for a whole new look.
Whether you go with a wrought iron staircase or possibly an oak staircase the most important thing is that you use a qualified contractor so that you get a well built staircase. Take some time to look at photos on the net and you will see some great ideas to get you started.
